Lake Ohau Lodge Employment

Lake Ohau Lodge is an iconic 72 room NZ high country lodge on the shores of Lake Ohau in the Southern Alps, the headwaters of the Waitaki Valley.  The Lodge is unique in its style and we pride ourselves on providing genuine and friendly Kiwi hospitality along with amazing food.  We live in an extraordinary natural landscape with a large lake, mountains, river valleys and walking trails on our back door step so if you love the outdoors, one of these positions could be for you. We are a medium to large family run business catering for tours and functions over summer and skiers and snowboarders over winter. We are the Ohau family and we treat every guest as if they were a guest in our own home.  We choose positive and happy people who will work as a team and who will go that extra distance, offering that personal touch to make our guests feel welcome. 

We have accommodation on site and provide 3 meals a day for $200/week or there are some houses locally that can be rented and different arrangements entered in to. 

SUMMER 2021 

HEAD CHEF - We are a family business, looking for a talented and enthusiastic Head Chef to take over the running of the kitchen and to continue the reputation that we have gained over 31 years. You will be involved in menu planning, overseeing the smooth operation of the kitchen including the food control plan, managing food costs and meeting budgets, ordering and maintaining stock levels and rotation, maintaining our high standard of presentation and excellent food.

You will have excellent communication skills, be friendly and approachable, able to work calmly in a busy kitchen and to inspire and motivate others while working alongside your team. 

LINE COOK -  We are looking for someone to be our breakfast chef but also to assist in preparing and serving meals under supervision of our Head or Sous Chef.  Some previous kitchen experience required.

KITCHEN HAND - You will be comfortable around the kitchen, enjoy cooking, happy working in a fun environment and ready to step in wherever needed.  You will be required to wash dishes, prep for dinner or breakfast, learn to make a mean nachos platter, and according to your skills could be asked to help in other areas.

RECEPTIONIST - This is a permanent position and to start in October.  We look for someone who will make a good first impression and is welcoming, polite, happy and efficient and who will also fit in with the existing team. The position requires you to manage the RHS booking system, answer the phone, reply to emails, take bookings, prepare bills and reconcile takings.  You will also liaise with the restaurant, kitchen, bar and housekeeping and can be required to help in these areas.  The successful applicant will have hospitality experience, ideally in hotel reception. 

HEAD & ASSISTANT HEAD HOUSEKEEPER - We are looking for 2 x housekeepers for the summer season starting September/October. We require a Head Housekeeper and we also will require an Assistant Head Housekeeper who can be responsible for the lead role on our Head's days off.  For these 2 positions we require experience in the role but you will also be given on the job training.  

HOUSEKEEPERS - We will be looking for additional staff from October/November.  Experience is preferred.

Ohau Snow Fields Employment

Ohau Snow Fields is the original NZ high country boutique snow and ski field situated in the Southern Alps south of Mt Cook. Ohau has a double chair lift, a platter and a snow mat.
